Harmonic Material Selection in a Historic Setting
Our project "Haus L" represents a successful symbiosis between the characteristics of an old building in Stuttgart's elevated location and modern, functional kitchen design. The particular challenge was to create a kitchen that respects the charm of the historic building while also meeting contemporary demands for functionality and aesthetics.
The centerpiece of this kitchen is the careful selection of top-quality materials. We chose materials that impart a timeless elegance to the space while simultaneously underscoring the authenticity of the old building. The materials were selected to blend harmoniously with the existing architecture while still providing a modern touch.
The Kitchen Island: A Masterpiece of Uniformity
Particularly noteworthy is the kitchen island, which is made entirely of a single material. This uniform material choice was a deliberate design decision that gives the space a special calm and harmony. The monolithic appearance of the island creates a fascinating contrast to the classic elements of the old building and thereby serves as the visual anchor of the entire room.
The choice of a single material for the island not only has aesthetic reasons. It also gives the space a certain lightness and openness, which often poses a challenge in old buildings. Furthermore, it offers maximum design freedom for the rest of the room, as it acts as a calm counterpoint to any ornamental elements of the old building that may be present.
Frequently Asked Questions about the "Haus L" Project
What special challenges were there in integrating the modern kitchen into the historical building?
The biggest challenge was to harmoniously integrate the modern kitchen design into the historic fabric. We had to plan carefully to seamlessly integrate technical requirements such as electrical and plumbing systems.
What material was used for the uniform design of the kitchen island?
For the kitchen island, we chose a high-quality, durable composite material that resembles natural stone in appearance but is easier to maintain and more resistant to stains and scratches.
How was the balance between modern design and the character of the historical building maintained?
We deliberately opted for simple, timeless forms and materials that harmoniously fit into the existing architecture. At the same time, we subtly integrated modern technology to meet all the requirements of a contemporary kitchen.
Is the concept of a uniform kitchen island adaptable for other projects?
Absolutely. The concept of a monolithic kitchen island can be tailored to various room sizes and styles. It is particularly well-suited for projects where a clear, calm focal point in the room is desired.
